A man was attacked in his Bingham Road flat in Verwood last Friday (5 June).
At around 9.50am, two men forced their way into his home and attacked him with a hammer and a wooden stick.
The man aged in his 50s sustained fractures, cuts and bruises to his head and injuries to his knees. He was taken to Bournemouth Hospital for treatment and has since been released, but will have to undergo surgery.
The offenders searched the flat and stole a quantity of cash, a key fob and a mobile phone.
The first offender is described as white, aged in his mid-20s or early 30s, of slim build, six feet tall and with dark hair. He was unshaven and possibly had a tattoo on the right side of his neck.
The second offender is described as having darker skin, shorter and stockier, aged in his mid-20s and was wearing a black balaclava.
The pair left the scene in an old shaped black Vauxhall Corsa driven by a white man wearing a pink top.
Detective Constable Daniel Bartosz, of Bournemouth CID, said: “This was a violent attack on a man in his own home. We believe this was a targeted attack and I would like to reassure members of the public that incidents such as this are very rare in Dorset.
“I am appealing to anyone who may know who was responsible for this attack to contact me urgently.
“I am also keen to hear from anyone who saw two men or a car matching the description given in the Verwood area at the time.
“All calls will be treated in strict confidence.”
