Verwood raises the flag to celebrate Commonwealth Day
Residents along with two Verwood schools joined the mayor and deputy mayor of the town to celebrate Commonwealth Day today, 13 March.
Children from Emmanuel Middle and Hillside First schools joined the mayor, deputy mayor and residents of Verwood to witness the raising of the Commonwealth flag in celebration of Commonwealth Day today.
They joined together on Ferrett Green to hear the Mayor, Councillor Mrs Susan Sharp, read out a letter from the The Right Honourable Patricia Scotland QC, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Nations. This was followed by the Commonwealth Affirmation.
As in many towns throughout the Commonwealth, the raising of the flag took place at 10am. In Dorset it was greeted with blue skies and sunshine.
