Victoria Education Centre for Disabled Young People in Poole recently held a Car Show & Vintage Day to raise money for their ‘Canopy Appeal’.
Hundreds of people turned up to enjoy a fun filled day of entertainment, displays, food stalls, birds of prey and to see the vehicles on show.
Sporting Bears, who raise money for children’s charities in the UK, brought along their ‘muscle cars’ for people to take a ride in, including a Porsche 981 Boxter Spyder and a Mercedes C63 AMG capable of 0-60mph in less than four seconds.
Also on show were some wonderful World War 2 vehicles, military guns displayed by the Poole Field Gun Display Group and a selection of stunning American cars from the CAN-AM Car Club.
1940/50s’ sounds came from Real Vintage, a singing duo who got people up dancing , Daft (Dorset All Ford Types Car Club), were displaying fabulous Fords from yesteryear whilst the VW Group had some fun vehicles on show.
Paula Allcroft, a staff member at the school and the event organiser said, “I was thrilled at how many visitors turned up and the weather was perfect. We are so grateful for the support from everyone involved who gave their time for free and helped raise money towards the school Canopy Appeal.”
This appeal has been set up to raise funds for an 80m walkway between two buildings of the school, which desperately requires a covering, as disabled students are open daily to the elements as they cross between them.
At a cost of approximately £90,000 the school has a way to go but thanks to the in- credible generosity and support from so many people at the car show, the school is one step closer to fulfilling this much needed facility.
