Thirteen volunteers from Ordnance Survey’s Head offices in Southampton joined Ben Feeney from Christchurch and East Dorset Councils’ Community and Recreation team to litter pick Christchurch beaches. The eager volunteers collected 18 bags of rubbish between Friars Cliff and Chewton Bunny at Highcliffe.
Although they work in Southampton, most of the Ordnance Survey volunteers either live locally or enjoy coming to Christchurch beaches in the summer.
Ben Feeney said: “Our beaches have already received the Seaside Award for 2015 for which one of the standards is beach cleanliness, however debris can wash onshore from the tides.
“All of our beaches are inspected regularly, but we are always happy for volunteer groups that are keen to look after their local spaces and give something back to the community.”
