Council bosses have said a big thank you after a Dorset company agreed to take 60 tonnes of unwanted weed from Poole Park free of charge.
Work on clearing the green algae from the park’s saltwater lake began last week (1/7) and lasted for five days.
Eco Sustainable Solutions offered free disposal with the weed due to be mulched with other waste at the company’s 17-acre site at Parley near Christchurch. The resultant compost will be used to grow turf.
Peter Hardy, Eco’s Commercial Manager, said: “I walk my dogs at Poole Park and, like all regular users, I’m only too well aware of the problems caused by this very unpleasant weed. It’s unsightly and smelly.
“Eco is only too pleased to help Borough of Poole tackle this problem as well as save the authority the cost of disposing of the weed.
“This is the third year running that our offer to help has been accepted. It’s in all our interests to keep Poole, and especially the park, looking at its best.”
What a job. Won’t it grow again in this hot weather? I don’t remmember this happening years ago, what’s changed?
