Rising Voices Wessex choir
Rising Voices Wessex choir was set up in 2013 by cancer patients who find music helps them to deal with the challenges of living with and recovering from the disease.
The choir is going to be supporting Blake, a harmony group who have won three Brit awards and have been invited to perform at Buckingham Palace twice already, at their concert at the Regent Centre in Christchurch on 6 May.
Doctor Alistair Smith, Chair of Trustees and one of the choir’s founders is also looking forward to the concert saying that: “Health services are good at measuring how much or how little cancer may be present – but they not so good at seeing how well individuals may be. Our aim is help people enjoy the best quality of life. Singing is in a choir is one way to help achieve this and, at the same time, reduce some of the pressures on the NHS by helping people to be and feel well.”
Research has revealed that singing in a choir has benefits for the patients such as improving health and wellbeing, increasing confidence and decreasing social isolation.
