An initiative launched by the new Bishop of Salisbury the Rt Rev Stephen Lake, prompted a West Moors couple to donate £50 to Coping with CHAOS which is run by Diverse Abilities, Dorset’s Disability charity.

At the service in June, which welcomed the bishop to Salisbury Cathedral, everyone was given a golden envelope containing £10 – with a total of £10,000 given away – donated by two generous benefactors.

The instructions given were to make the £10 grow and to give it away so that ‘in an anxious world, it would make a difference’. Husband and wife, Alex and Gillian Clarke chose to donate £50 to Coping with CHAOS to make a difference to the lives of children and young people in Dorset as a gift from St Mary’s Church in West Moors.

Coping with CHAOS provides support to children and young people with complex, profound and multiple learning disabilities and challenging behaviours who cannot easily access other resources and play schemes. These children and young people, plus their families, benefit from play opportunities every day of the school holidays, a youth club and lots of support and information for parents and the rest of the family, including activity sessions for siblings.

Clare Rochford, children’s team manager, said: “We really appreciate this kind and generous donation, it will mean so much for the children and families we support in our school holiday activities, youth club and family support service.”
