West Moors fun run will ‘bee’ friendly
The first ever such event organised by the town council with a ‘bee theme’ will be suitable for all ages and abilities
If you’ve never taken part in a fun run, this could be the year to have a go.
West Moors Town Council’s first such event, which takes place on Sunday 10 May, is designed to be inclusive, family-friendly and beginner-welcoming. It promises a morning of fresh air, fitness and community spirit for all ages and abilities.
Sponsorship by Moors Manor Care Home means that all proceeds raised will be shared between The Vine Youth Club and Castleman Community Larder.
The event will begin at 10am on Fryer Field, where local personal training team HELM will lead a lively group warm-up. Participants can then choose their challenge on a flat, off-road 1.25km course. Walk, jog or run at your own pace, whether it’s one lap, four laps (5km) or eight laps (10km). The final whistle will sound at 12 noon, giving those who wish to push themselves the opportunity to complete as many laps as they can.
In keeping with its ‘Save the Bees’ theme — inspired by World Bee Day later in May — the event aims to raise awareness of the vital role pollinators play in our environment. All entrants will receive a digital guide with simple, practical steps to support bees at home. On the day, participants will receive a commemorative medal and a packet of bee-friendly seeds. Fancy dress is warmly encouraged — think yellow, stripes or even wings.
Advance registration is required. Tickets are £5 for adults and £3 for under-18s. Children under five may take part free of charge with an Under-5 ticket; however, to receive a medal, an Under-18 ticket must be purchased.
For those looking to build confidence ahead of the event, HELM is offering a special ‘Race Ready’ pass for £10. This includes four consecutive Saturday training sessions designed to strengthen legs, build stamina and connect participants with fellow local runners in the lead-up to race day.
