Whale and Dolphin Watch at Durlston will remember former dolphin watcher

A man who was a dolphin watcher for 27 years will be remembered on 3 August when a full day of dolphin watching will take place at Durlston near Swanage.
A full day of Dolphin Watching will take place at Durlston on 3 August and whilst this event is part of the Seawatch Foundation’s National Whale and Dolphin Watch Week (29 July – 6 August), Durlston volunteers are dedicating their effort to the memory of the late John Dando a former dolphin watcher for 27 years.
Durlston Dolphin Watch was established in 1988 as many dolphins were seen from the cliff tops. At 100 feet above sea level the Durlston cliff top coast path can give views of dolphins up to a mile off shore.
At least 14 dolphin watchers, some of whom have been active even longer than Mr Dando, will be available for the day. They will be glad to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with visitors and hope to inspire some fresh faces, so if you can spare an hour a week, let them know.
Durlston dolphin watch is just one example of how dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers support the small ranger team at Durlston Country Park. Rangers are keen to receive photographs of dolphins’ dorsal fins which can help to identify individuals. Visit the Durlston website for more details. You can also subscribe to dolphin text alerts for £5 a year or receive them free if you are a regular dolphin watcher.
