A wild play day is being held so families can discover fun ways to explore and play in the New Forest, while learning about its special qualities.
Children, parents and grandparents are invited to explore, play and be creative in the great outdoors through activities such as scavenger hunts, a natural obstacle course and woodland art.
The free event organised by the New Forest National Park Authority and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust aims to help families enjoy nature instead of being glued to their tablets, phones and televisions.
The play day will run from 10am to 3pm on 18 August at Whitefield Moor near Brockenhurst. No booking is required and free parking is available at Whitefield Moor car park.
Sue Palma, Senior Education Officer at the New Forest National Park Authority, said: ‘The most memorable experiences for families are usually the simplest activities like pooh sticks or finding tracks and signs left by animals.
‘So if you’re looking for ideas to keep your children busy during the holidays, come along to our wild play day for some great activities.’
Dawn O’Malley, from the Wildlife Trust, said: ‘One of our key aims is to engage people of all ages with nature. Spending time outdoors with your children or grandchildren is not only good for health and fitness but also may spark a passion in them for the outdoors and conservation.
‘Most of the activities on the Wild Play Day are things you can do with your children at any time in a variety of places, including gardens, and can be really fun for the whole family.’
