Volunteers have given a new lease of life to wooden wildlife play sculptures in Poole.
The Green Team from local fresh, handmade cosmetics company, LUSH, volunteered to coat the realistic looking sculptures with decking oil to preserve them against the weather.
Located in Pinecliff Gardens, the five giant sculptures, overlook the beach between Canford Cliffs and Branksome Chine. The two dolphins, a sand lizard, a green tiger beetle and a wood ant were carved and installed by Andrew Frost in 2009.
LUSH staff have also carried out many activities to improve Poole’s public open spaces, including painting the fence around Hamworthy Park play area and planting trees and wildflowers in several places within the borough. Earlier this year a team of 100 volunteers also helped carry out a beach clean along Holes Bay shore and cycle path collecting an incredible 1,000kg of waste, filling Borough of Poole’s refuse truck twice.
Councillor Xena Dion, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for a Prosperous and Sustainable Poole, Borough of Poole, said: “Children have been playing with these fantastic sculptures since they were first installed and the work carried out by LUSH mean that children can continue to play with them for many years to come.”
Councillor May Haines, Ward Member for Canford Cliffs, Borough of Poole, said: “We are very fortunate to have a successful local business that not only provides employment to our residents but goes that extra mile to give in kind to the community. Pinecliff Gardens is a much treasured open space and we are grateful to LUSH for their contribution to our local area which will also benefit anyone that uses these fabulous sculptures.”
