Wimborne care home residents mark VE Day 75
Residents of Hyacinth House in Stapehill really got into the spirit of marking VE Day 75, with bunting and flag making up to the 8 May and an afternoon party on the day.
Residents tucked into a lunch of fish and chips, ice cream with chocolate flakes and sparkling wine, followed by an afternoon of singing which provoked laughter, tears and lots of memories. Classic songs included ‘We’ll meet again’ and ‘Roll out the barrel’ and feet moved to the beat of the Twist.
Clare Robbins, general manager said, “Many of our residents have very clear memories of the Second World War, and reminisced about their experiences, so it’s a privilege to remember and celebrate with them. We had a lovely day, and we are making sure extra effort is focused on creating an enjoyable environment for all of our residents, whilst ensuring that the group activities are smaller, adhering to social distancing advice.”
Resident Pam Turner, said, “I remember VE day like it was yesterday, I was 15 and an Australian soldier lifted me up and swung me round, much to my mother’s disgust!”
