Wimborne Community Garden wins regional In Bloom award
A community garden in Wimborne was declared the Winning Community Garden at the South & South East In Bloom Awards on 20 September.
For the second year running, Wimborne Community Garden (WCG) was declared Winning Community Garden at the South & South East In Bloom Awards Ceremony at RHS Wisley.
At the ceremony on Friday 20 September, WCG received a Level 5 Outstanding Certificate (the highest attainable) plus a gold medal and award. The group also received the Judges Award, given in recognition of the positive direction in which the project is being led.
In their report, the awards’ judge said: “The work that has been done over the last two years at Wimborne Community Garden is amazing. Keep up with this brilliant project – it certainly shows what can be achieved by a dedicated community group”.
WCG focuses on growing produce to share with Wimborne Food Bank, the Community Kitchen and Beaucroft College’s café (where the garden is located).
Over the past two years the garden has developed into a flourishing space and is filled with vegetables, fruit and flowers. As with all gardens, this one continues to evolve and is currently aiming on creating a small kitchen area: cooking facilities will allow the sharing of cooking skills and recipes.
