Wimborne joint effort raises over £5,000 for Ukraine relief
The funds for the Shelterbox Appeal were raised in a joint initiative by Wimborne Rotary and the Allendale Centre.
Wimborne Rotary and the Allendale Centre joined forces recently raising more than £5,000 to Shelterbox. This will help with work to provide support to Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war in that country.
Shelterbox, a Rotary International Project Partner working in many countries around the world, including Poland, aims to ensure no family is left without shelter from the elements.
In conjunction with their rapidly growing Friday market, the Allendale Centre provided space for the display by Rotary of a typical Shelterbox accommodation tent and invited Wimborne Rotarians to take a collection of donations from the visiting public. The Allendale also hosted special events including one for children and an evening concert, the proceeds of which were also donated to the total fundraising effort.
In total £2,174 was raised by the Allendale, with Wimborne Rotary contributing a further total of £3,160 from member and public donations and club funds.
Rotarian Brian Dryden, who co-ordinated the joint initiative said: “I am delighted that our joint initiative with the Allendale produced such good results for our fundraising for Ukraine. The money will assist Shelterbox with their relief work with Ukrainian refugees”.
