Wimborne Minster Flower Festival wows visitors
The festival, which runs until Monday 29 September, has displays featuring various Dorset landmarks and people who feature in the county’s history.
Visitors to the preview of Wimborne Minster Flower Festival were all of the same opinion: it is absolutely stunning.
Entitled ‘The Delights of Dorset’ and running until Monday 29 September, there are displays including Wimborne Minster Folk Festival, Dorset Cheese Festival, Hat Festival, Local Wildlife, Model Railway, Corfe Castle, Knowlton Rings, Dorset Knob throwing, Thomas Hardy, Isaac Gulliver, Mary Anning, Dorset Buttons and a Mice Orchestra, not to mention Demelza the dinosaur and her baby Dino.
Organised by Christine Oliver – who was the artistic director – and her husband Anthony Oliver, plus Jackie Wharfe and the Minster Flower team, it had the support of flower groups from across the county.
Attending the opening ceremony was HM Lord Lieutenant Michael Dooley.
The festival coincides with the 1,300th anniversary of the death of the foundress and patron of Wimborne Minster church, St Cuthburga.
The festival is open today (Friday), Saturday and Monday from 10am to 6pm and on Sunday from 2pm to 6pm.
Don’t miss it.
