The Dorset market town of Wimborne Minster will switch on its Christmas lights on Saturday 29 November at 4.30pm.
Mrs Linda Tazzyman, Chairman of the Chamber of Trade and Commerce will help the mayor flick the switch at the Christmas tree. Keep your eyes peeled for Snow White and other panto characters and be prepared for a big bang! At 4.45pm Wimborne Militia will fire their muskets, as in ancient tradition, to ward off evil spirits in spectacular style. Members of the public who do not wish to be present for the firing should vacate the area after the switch on.
But that’s not all! A full day of entertainment starts on the Square at 11am with the QE School jazz orchestra, others entertainers include Wimborne Ukulele Band, Vocal Impact Choir, St James’ First School Choir, and the Footlight Dancers. Allenbourn Middle School musicians will lead carols around the tree between 4pm and 4.45pm.
A collection will be taken in aid of the mayor’s charities – The Minster and the Priest’s House Museum.
