Wimborne music trail hits the right note
Did you know four huge music stars were all school friends in Wimborne? To discover who they were, go on the Wimborne Music Trail.
A new walking trail was launched at Square Records in Wimborne Minster on Saturday 31 January.
The Wimborne Music Trail will reveal that four multi-million-selling musical artists were all school friends in the town.
Other facts that will be revealed include that a former mayor was once in a punk band; that Wimborne was home to a classical composer who studied with English composer Vaughan Williams; and that more than one folk singer has celebrated Wimborne in song.
Attending the launch on Saturday were the Mayor of Wimborne Minster, Cllr Jeff Hart, and town crier Chris Brown, with a performance by singer Dorset Phil. The walking tour will take people on a journey to discover Wimborne’s musical heritage.
Created by Adrian Newton from Wimborne Contemporary Arts, it is Planet Wimborne’s first contribution to a series of 12 trails (one a month) being produced by a variety of local organisations as a contribution to Wimborne 2026 Town of Culture. As well as lots of fascinating facts about people and places, the trail includes links to further information about the featured artists and music, plus tips for enjoying music sustainably.
