It’s thought the Wimborne Rotary’s seventh Great Santa Fun Run has raised between £5,000 and £6,000 this year for the runners’ chosen charities.
Held at Badbury Rings point-to-point course on Sunday13 December, the event was sponsored by the Rotary club’s business partners and saw 115 Santa’s taking part.
Following a cheerful warm-up session entrants assembled for the start and then ran or walked over a challenging course of two or four miles raising sponsorship for their individual or team charities.
The runner’s beneficiaries included the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation, Cherry Tree Nursery friends and volunteers, as well as Mosaic and East Dorset CAB. Local MP Michael Tomlinson and a group of six supporters also joined in the run.
Commenting on the success of the event, Rotary Club President, Alan Griffiths, said, “We are pleased that so many runners turned out to take part and also that the weather was kind to them given recent heavy rain.
“It is rewarding that a range of charities will benefit from the efforts of all these runners and we will be aiming to run the event again next year.” Over the last seven years, the event has raised nearly £50,000.
