From 30 November 2013 responsibility for Wimborne Tourist Information Centre is transferring from East Dorset District Council to the Priest’s House Museum and a number of volunteers are now needed to help run the Centre.
Earlier this year East Dorset District Council announced that, following a reduction in central government funding, it was no longer in a position to run the Information Centre and that tourism information would be provided online. It would, however, look for another organisation, which might be willing to take on the running of the Information Centre in a voluntary capacity.
Trustees at The Priest’s House Museum have stepped forward and will now operate the Centre. In a partnership arrangement with the council, the manager of the Centre, Lindsay Lawrence, will continue to be paid by the council for a period of three years and she will manage a band of volunteers who will staff the Centre.
She is now actively recruiting volunteers. The job would be ideal for anyone who enjoys helping and meeting people, is able to use the computer and internet and who has a good knowledge of the local area.
Anyone interested can call in to the Centre for an information pack and application form, or email Lindsay on llawrence@christchurchandeastdorset.gov.uk.
