Wimborne Town ended a run of three defeats with a morale-boosting and emphatic win against Clevedon Town on Saturday. The Magpies started slowly, but gradually forced their way into the game, and a George Webb strike meant Wimborne took a slender and slightly flattering lead into the break.
The second half was a very different affair, with the goal clearly giving Wimborne an injection of much-needed confidence. The home side ran riot for the majority of the second period, with Mark Gamble netting a swift brace and Matt Kemble curling in a spectacular fourth. Clevedon grabbed a consolation through a fiercely-struck free-kick before Max Brimson bundled the ball in right under the cross bar for his first goal for the club.
Next up for the Magpies is a Red Insure Cup match on Tuesday night, away to local rivals Poole Town. Since Poole were promoted to the Southern Premier Division, meetings between the two clubs are much rarer. This makes the games all the more special as both sides are eager to claim the bragging rights.
Next Saturday sees Wimborne’s first game this season in the FA Trophy, when the Magpies play at home to Godalming Town.
