Wimborne walking football team get new sponsor
Douch Family Funeral Directors are the new shirt sponsor for an over-60s waking football team.
Members of a local walking football team that caters for the over-60s have received backing from a local business.
Douch Family Funeral Directors is now the proud shirt sponsors of Wimborne Town over 60s walking football team.
Wearing the Magpie’s well-known black-and-white stripes, the over-60s team is new, having only entered the league structure in October.
Wimborne Town is based at the Wyatt Homes stadium complex off Leigh Road, which includes all-weather pitches.
The Douch family has strong links with sport in the town and sponsors several clubs in the area. Managing Director Nick Douch said: “We are very much community-based, and walking football is growing quickly and we wanted to be a part of it.
“It is superb at getting people back into football and of course there is a great social side — and it retains a competitive edge.
“Wimborne Town is new to walking football, but I understand the interest is huge.
“It is pleasure to sponsor them; we have sponsored sports teams and sports leagues for decades and understand that they are an important part of community fabric.”
David Mears, captain of the team, said: “Wimborne is a real community town. For the club to be able to extend its reach into walking football and to have a local company supporting us is a great marriage.
“In time, we plan to have more walking football teams representing Wimborne Town FC. Hopefully, competing in all the divisions (which start at age 50) for men and women.”
Douch Family Funeral Directors runs branches in Wimborne, Ferndown, Wareham, Poole, Swanage, Corfe Mullen and Blandford.
