A 33-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of a Bournemouth man 12 years ago – following an extensive investigation by the Major Crime Investigation Team.
Clive Wilcox, 42 years of age, was assaulted just before midnight on Friday 4 May 2001 outside the One Stop Community Shop on Wimborne Road in Winton.
As a result of the attack he received a serious head injury from which he did not recover. He died at Royal Bournemouth Hospital the following night.
Over twelve years later, 33-year-old Daniel Scott, of no fixed abode was arrested in London in connection with Clive Wilcox’s death. He was subsequently charged with manslaughter.
On Friday 6 September 2013, Scott pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Winchester Crown Court.
Inspector Stewart Balmer, of Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “This conviction follows an extensive and lengthy investigation and I am pleased that the man responsible for Clive Wilcox’s death has now been brought to justice.
“This was a tragic incident that resulted in an innocent man losing his life and I hope that this conviction – some twelve years after Clive’s death – will bring some closure to Mr Wilcox’s family.
“I also hope that this conviction sends out a clear message that Dorset Police are committed to bringing offenders to justice.”
Scott will be sentenced on Friday 4 October 2013.
