Woman suffers suspected spinal injury when speedboat flips over in Studland
Poole Lifeboat was launched by UK Coastguard on 13 August to a report that a 24-foot speedboat with four people on-board had flipped over and three of the occupants had been ejected in to the water at Studland.
The person who remained on the vessel had a suspected spinal injury.
When the lifeboat arrived on scene there was a helicopter in attendance. The lifeboat volunteers found the speedboat alongside a catamaran in Studland Bay and the speedboat occupants were now safely out of the water and on the catamaran.
Conditions were overcast, sea conditions calm and there was a slight northerly breeze.
Two lifeboat crew were transferred onto the casualty vessel and administered care. They were joined by the winch man from the helicopter. After assessment, the casualty with a suspected spinal injury was placed on a stretcher and transported, with another female, by the lifeboat to North Haven Steps, where an ambulance had been requested to attend. Swanage Search and rescue Coastguard volunteers were also on hand to assist with the medi vac, they had come across on the ferry.
The two other casualties took the speedboat back to Cobbs Quay to refuel before returning to Rockley. The lifeboat rendezvoused with the helicopter in Poole Bay to enable the winch man to rejoin the aircraft.
