With three top quality displays, Bournemouth Fireworks’ Remember, Remember night on Saturday, November 8 will commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of World War One with a unique fireworks show set to music.
The Band of the Royal British Legion Christchurch is to join the Poppy Appeal on the eve of Remembrance Sunday at Bournemouth’s biggest fireworks party. The Christchurch band, which was honoured to perform the Last Post ceremony on a trip to the Menin Gate last year, has a varied repertoire of music from show tunes to military marches and will play two sets at the Littledown Centre event in the run up to the fireworks displays at 8pm and 9pm.
“We are delighted the excellent Christchurch band will be joining us on the night as we are working with Bournemouth Fireworks to bring the public’s attention to the on-going work of the Royal British Legion,” says Ian Jarvis, the Legion’s Community Fundraiser for Dorset.
“As a charity we need to reach as many people as possible, especially young people, and the night before Remembrance Sunday Bournemouth Fireworks is a great opportunity to bring our message to the wider public.”
The Royal British Legion supports the armed services community as a whole and the Poppy Appeal is its biggest fundraising campaign. It runs all year round, but is most visible during the approach to Remembrance Sunday. More than 40 million Remembrance poppies are made each year and it is hoped this year’s appeal will raise more than £40 million.
The second of Bournemouth Fireworks’ three displays has been named Remember, Remember and will be set to music including The Dam Busters March, I Vow To Thee My Country, 633 Squadron Theme, a selection from Tommy’s Tunes, Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines, A Life On the Ocean Wave, Rule, Britannia! and Land of Hope and Glory.
Gates open at 5.30pm with fireworks displays at 7pm, 8pm and 9pm. Bournemouth Fireworks also supports Bournemouth Hospital’s Jigsaw Appeal.
