Bournemouth-based Yellow Buses has been shortlisted for two prestigious national awards.
The Yellows’ Gallery Bus is in the ‘Innovation’ category of the UK Bus Awards and Mike Saul is listed in the ‘Unsung Hero’ category.
The Gallery Bus is decorated with the pictures of ‘artists in residence’ who spent a year travelling on the fleet and recording what they observed.
It is in regular service and has proved such a hit that now the Yellows have ‘poets in residence’ on the buses.
Mike Saul is the company’s supervisor in Bournemouth Square and is there in all weather ensuring passengers know which bus to catch.
Already this year he has won the Transport Delivery Award at the Bournemouth Tourism Awards.
He is a walking encyclopaedia of local transport and accommodation and always goes the extra mile to help tourists and anyone else who needs direction on the town centre.
Jenni Wilkinson, Yellows’ Head of Marketing, said: “The UK Bus Awards are most important in our industry.
“We pride ourselves on innovating and on the friendliness of our staff – and the categories in which we are shortlisted reflects that.
“The Gallery Bus has been incredibly popular and passengers do appreciate it when we try something different.
“We are already gearing up to our next innovative bus from the arts with our Poetry Bus.
“Mike Saul really deserves his nomination and has become a well-known figure in the town centre wearing his hi-vis jacket.”
The Yellow Buses delegation will be attending the glittering ceremony at The Ballroom on London’s South Bank on November 24.
