Young carers receive £1,000 from Persimmon Homes
MYTime Young Carers, which is based in Poole, has been awarded £1,000 by Persimmon Homes South Coast through its Community Champions scheme.
The charity supports young carers, aged five to 25, by organising activity days which provide rare opportunities for them to take some time out for themselves.
The charity’s development manager, Penelope Day, said, “One in three young carers reports feelings of stress while 72 per cent struggle with loneliness, and we believe our service to be vital to the well-being of these amazing, selfless young people.
“We are all facing difficult times at the moment, and we are currently working hard to offer support through our online service, MYTime at Home, but this donation means that we can plan for the future and our young carers can rest assured that, as things return to normal, we will be there to support them.
“Our activity days help to tackle young carers’ feelings of isolation and low self-worth, while creating rare opportunities for them to relax. We call them memory-making days because they allow our young carers the chance to enjoy a range of experiences, such as rock-climbing or ice-skating, which they may never otherwise be able to.
“The donation will help to fund two activity days in the future, catering for about 20 people each time and we are very grateful for the support.”
Matt Paine, managing director for Persimmon Homes South Coast, said, “The support MYTime Young Carers provides is clearly invaluable, and we are delighted to be able to help them in this way.”
For the foreseeable future, Community Champions, which has run since 2015, will be targeted at over-70s groups with two donations of up to £1,000 available every month in the region.
