Nine budding young chefs from Ferndown Upper School (FUS) took part in the Rotary Young Chef competition on 14 January and prepared a two-course meal in one-and-a-half hours.
Judging was carried out by Richard Burnett from Westbourne Rotary, who has been in hotel management and catering for many years; John Perry from Wareham Rotary, the owner of Frinley’s Cafe at Lulworth Cove and Pauline Richardson, wife and mother with many years cooking experience.
All contestants produced food of a high quality and the results were:
1st Abbie Howard
Menu: Spinach and Onion Pakoras with Mint Lamb Skewers, followed by Chicken Makhani.
2nd Charlotte Hovell
Menu: Miso Ramen Chicken Skewers, followed by Green Tea Creme Brulee.
3rd Myles Moreton
Menu: Chicken Tikka Kebabs, followed by Shrimp Korma.
Abbie, and hopefully Charlotte, will go forward to the district final to be held at the Bournemouth School of Hospitality and Food at the Lansdowne on Saturday, 27 February.
The competition provided the opportunity for students to practise for their GCSE/mock exams and was instigated by Debby Houghton from FUS who asked the Rotary group to organise it.
