Several trophies were won by Ellingham Cricket Colts to end a strong indoor season with trophies in the East Dorset 2014/15 Indoor League. The biggest title went to the U10 team who won Division 1 after a tense finals day saw them beat both Parley teams to lift the trophy.
They faced the Parley Pirates in the semi-final, however some wayward bowling from Ellingham saw the Pirates post an imposing 160 all out with Ed Spry taking 3 wickets for 32 runs. The total became even more daunting when in reply 3 Ellingham wickets, Robbie Hemmings ,Max Pepperell and Matthew Workman, fell in a single over with the score in the 30s, however Matthew King and Toby Richardson kept their heads to slowly chip away at the score although there were a couple of chances missed by the Parley fielders. Matthew retired but soon returned as Ed Spry fell cheaply and the two boys then continued their partnership to see the team home by 2 wickets in the final over, with Matthew finishing just short of his 1st half century on 49no whilst Toby got 37no.
After the nail-biting semi final the team had to play the Parley Panthers in the final, any thoughts that Ellingham had been drained by their earlier efforts were soon dispelled as they bowled out the Parley team for 114. This time the batting did not falter with Max Pepperell and Robbie Hemmings making good inroads into the chase before Robbie was dismissed. However Max supported by Matthew Workman took the team to the brink of victory. Matthew was out with 8 runs needed, however Max ensured there was no sudden panic to see his Ellingham team home by 4 wickets with almost 4 overs to spare.
The wins for the winter indoor season didn’t end there. The U9s were unbeaten in the Softball Division to take the title. There was also a win for the U13 team in Division 3.
