18 community projects receive Dorset Council funding
In this the second round of Dorset Council’s community and culture project, a total of £66,094 has been awarded.
The Streetlight Project in Wimborne is one of 18 arts and sports organisations to receive funding from the second round of Dorset Council’s community and culture project.
The organisation, which is based on the Stone Lane Industrial Estate, receives £1,200 towards the setting up a new group of skateboarders aged six to 18.
The new fund was launched in April 2021 and in the first round, £42,484 was awarded to 15 local organisations with £66,094 in the second round.
The fund provided grants of up to 80 per cent of total project costs to applicants that met the criteria. Grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 were awarded to schemes supporting the council in meeting its core priorities. Priority was given to events and activities which would benefit marginalised people.
Cllr Laura Miller, Dorset Council portfolio holder for Customer and Community Services, said: “I’m delighted we’re able to provide these one-off grants to promote a wide range of cultural, heritage and physical activities for residents across the county.
“Priority has been given to projects supporting disadvantaged, marginalised or under-served groups in Dorset, and we have seen some fantastic projects get the funding they need to really make a difference to local people.”
The project fund will re-open for new applications on 29 April. Details can be found here: https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/your-community/support-for-voluntary-and-community-organisations/funding/community-and-culture-project-fund
