Where else can you win a wheelbarrow of wine?
Here are five fun facts you may not know about Ferndown Fete on the Field, which is organised by Ferndown & Parley Rotary CIO.
1
After missing a year in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Fern-tastic Fete on the Field is going ahead at King George Playing Field, Ferndown on 19 and 20 June 2021 and will be run in line with any government guidelines being in force. This is a family fun day out.

This year the popular 5k and 10k charity runs that normally take place during the Fete on the Field will instead be held on Sunday 20 June from 11am (which happens to be Father’s Day).
3
The Fete on the Field wouldn’t be the same without the Classic Car Show. There will be a reduced capacity of 100 vehicles this year, but it’s good to know that all bookings were filled by 9 March, and there is a waiting list in case any existing bookings are cancelled. Ask to be added to the list if you’ve got a classic car you’d like to show off. You never know your luck.
4
Social distancing will be employed across the Fete on the Field to ensure all the stalls, attractions, shows, and visitors are kept safe. There will be many stalls to browse, and if you want your own pitch it costs just £20. This year there is a competition for the best fancy dressed stall (more details to be announced soon), which will be free to enter.

One of the great highlights of the fete and a terrific fundraiser, is the draw for a wheelbarrow full of wine – bottled of course – you don’t have to drink it from the barrow. The wheelbarrow is even thrown in as part of the prize so if you live locally, you can wheel the booze home – safe in the knowledge that the last highwayman was buried in Berkshire in 1802.
Visit ferndownfotf.org for more details and if you feel we’ve missed out the very important and fun-filled John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation pram race, it is sadly not going ahead this year. Fingers crossed for 2022.
