Arrests after boy is seriously injured in Bournemouth hit and run
The eight-year-old received life-changing injuries in the collision in Holdenhurst Road on Monday 22 September.
Two people were arrested following a collision in which an eight-year-old boy received life-changing injuries in Holdenhurst Road on Monday 22 September.
Dorset Police received a report at 11.38am of a collision involving a white BMW 118i Sport and a pedestrian in Holdenhurst Road.
Officers attended, the road was temporarily closed, and a police cordon was put in place to allow both emergency services to deal safely with the incident and for further investigative work to be carried out.
The boy was taken to hospital by air ambulance for treatment.
The driver of the BMW reportedly failed to stop at the scene. Following enquiries, the vehicle was located and recovered, and a 36-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman – both from Reading in Berkshire – were arrested on suspicion of driving offences. They have been released on police bail as enquiries are ongoing.
Sergeant Mike Burt, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “We are continuing to investigate this collision, and I am keen to hear from any witnesses who have not already spoken to police.
“I would also urge anyone with dashcam who was driving in the vicinity, as well as any local residents or businesses with home CCTV systems or doorbell cameras, to please check their recorded footage to see if they have captured anything that may assist our enquiries.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police online, via email at scit@dorset.pnn.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting incident number 55250 141086. Alternatively, independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously online using its website or by calling Freephone 0800 555 111.
Following the Town Centre Survey, and successful Bournemouth Town Centre Summit last year, the new Bournemouth Town Centre Action Partnership Group will be taking forward and overseeing progress in responding to feedback from residents and businesses.
Cllr Vikki Slade, leader of BCP Council, said: “It is fantastic that Sir Conor has offered to chair this new collaborative group, which will bring together town centre voices who all share the collective ambition to deliver improvements in Bournemouth. I’m sure he will galvanise key partners and be the catalyst we need to bring forward new initiatives and improvements.
“Conor has been instrumental in gaining the interest of Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, who supports our vision for the future. Both Conor and I look forward to updating him later this week.
“The council has a part to play, but we can’t do it all. We are just one piece in a larger jigsaw puzzle, and if we all come together in a meaningful way, we can deliver positive action.
“Our high streets are changing across the country, and we know many large towns like Bournemouth are facing similar challenges. However, for our part the council has changed its operations to reflect the responses from the Town Centre Survey and the Summit and I have seen some of these improvements first-hand. Bournemouth is a brilliant town and I feel confident about its future, especially through the leadership of this new partnership.”
Invitations to join the Action Partnership Group will be issued to key partners, community groups and organisations very soon.
