The RS Tera Class arrived at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy on Saturday, 1 June for their National Championships, racing on Olympic Waters for the first time. Saturday proved a tricky day’s racing with the breeze shifting from 6-10 knots, gusting up to 15. All 91 sailors completed the five races.
With five different winners and sailors scoring up and down the fleet during the day, it was not going to be an easy ride for the eventual winner. Sunday was not a great day for racing, with a very light North Easterly at the start. But the fleet got away and managed to complete race six, won by Arthur Brown, who secured the win. He said, “It was a tough race with the weather not to our advantage. I really enjoyed racing here, we were all buzzing for the weekend, and racing in the wake of the Olympians was a great experience.” In the Sport Fleet, Jack Lewis took the title.
Ian Jameson, Class Association chairman commented, “We are thoroughly looking forward to returning to sail on the Olympic waters for the World Championships; the facilities here are second to none.”
The RS Tera World Championship will take place at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy on 28 July–2 August.
