The Mayor of Ferndown Cllr John Lewis and chair of the Ferndown In Bloom committee Cllr Jean Read presented over 15 green fingered recipients with their prizes at the annual award ceremony hosted by the Haskins Garden centre.
Barrie and Sheila Smith of Mayfield Close in the town were the winners of the main category for best front garden and received the shield and £100 worth of Haskins vouchers. Their garden was recognised by the judges for its blend of water features and magnificent borders.

Other category winners included best first time entry; tallest sunflower sponsored by mags4dorset; best business, retail, commercial or public house also sponsored by mags4dorset with the winner, The Nightjar, being awarded the prize of a business profile in 4Dorset magazine.

A new category for the town’s best new allotments was presented jointly to Lyn Ovens and Ann Bacon. And the photographic competition was won by Bob Walters, aged 90.

Jean Read said: “We are grateful to everyone who participated in this year’s competition as many were put off by the very cold start to the gardening calendar. Our judges have seen so many excellent examples of creative colour that makes Ferndown a beautiful place to live, work and enjoy. We are pleased to help encourage that beauty.”
