Bargates still open for business, say Christchurch BID and Chamber
The main route into Christchurch is closed for the next three weeks, but businesses along the road are still open as usual and need public support.
Christchurch & District Chamber of Commerce has joined forces with the Christchurch BID to demonstrate their support for the traders of Bargates and to remind residents that the street is still open for business.
The main route into Christchurch partially closed on Monday 29 June for three weeks, as the nearby Hartstone by Aster development continues.
But while the road is closed for construction work, the traders and businesses of Bargates remain open as usual.
Chamber of Commerce President Tim Lloyd said: “As roadworks return to Bargates, yet again, the BID and the Chamber have a responsibility to remind people that all Bargates retailers are open for business as usual, and they need public support throughout the disruption. We continue to lobby all roadworks stakeholders throughout to ensure the works are completed as quickly as possible.”
BID Operations Manager Ellie Howes added: “Christchurch BID are supporting Bargates Business Community whilst the roadworks are underway to install safe crossings connecting the new housing development to Bargates and the High Street.
“Despite the road closure, all Bargates Businesses remain open for business as usual, [and] pedestrian access is fully maintained.”
The BID and Chamber have teamed up to supply and put up vinyl banners to remind motorists that the stores, salons and businesses are still very keen to welcome the public. The BID and Chamber thanked Signs of Distinction for supplying the banners.
