Bournemouth Air Festival this weekend
Bournemouth Air Festival got underway on 31 August and has a packed programme of events on land, at sea and in the air until 3 September, so head down to Bournemouth for a show-stopper of a festival.
Flying at Bournemouth Air Festival started on Thursday and goes on until dusk. Flying will resume again at approximately 2pm on Friday 1 September, (weather permitting), with the promise of an exciting programme. On Saturday 2 September, the Red Arrows should take to the skies at midday, with other flights starting at 1.30pm. And on Sunday 3 September, a very vintage event will take place on shore, with flying starting at approximately 1.20pm.
Among the displays over the weekend you should see Breitling Wingwalker, Ykovlevs, Chinook, Spitfire, The Tigers, The Blades, Bristol Blenheim, Hurricane and Strikemaster pair and Twister Aerobatics team amongst many others. Night Air displays at dusk include fireworks and flares on Thursday (tonight), Friday and Saturday evening.
On land there will be the Army village, RAF village, Royal Navy village, Sunday vintage events and lots more.
The Open University also brings a giant infinity reflection cube to the show. This is to encourage the public to put down their phones and reflect.
It is no secret that the nation’s selfie obsession has become all-consuming, and a consumer poll commissioned by The Open University (OU) unveils that almost two thirds (59%) of us indulge in taking photos of ourselves every week. On the other hand, almost half (44%) of us haven’t looked at our inner selves and thought about our life goals in over six months, which is why the OU is encouraging the nation to self-reflect with the launch of a huge mirrored Reflection Cube at Bournemouth Air Festival. The 3×3 metre squared Cube is mirrored inside and out. The experience inside the cube includes a 360° infinity mirror experience, a striking light installation and zen-like soundscape, as well as questions to help people begin to self-reflect. The OU’s expert student services team will be on-hand to talk to visitors who may conclude that studying could help them achieve their ambitions or enable them to follow their dreams.
So if you have a flight of fancy that you want to turn into a reality, or you want to see some fancy flying, get down to Bournemouth Air Festival and enjoy.
