British Museum chooses Poole for masterpieces exhibition

‘Lines of thought: Drawing from Michelangelo to now’ will include superb studies and graphic works by artists including Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Picasso, Matisse and Hockney. There will be 70 works on show and this is a unique opportunity to see masterpieces by some of the world’s greatest artists.

The exhibition explores drawing as one of the most effective mediums for expressing and representing an artist’s ideas. The exhibition aims to encourage the audience to engage with their local and national drawing collections, to understand drawing, and to inspire them to draw too.

The British Museum, home to one of the world’s greatest graphic collections, has chosen Poole as the launch-venue for the exhibition – before it moves to Hull and Belfast.
The free exhibition runs from Saturday 3 September to Sunday 6 November 2016.
Remember to bring a sketchbook or ask at the museum for drawing materials to have a go at being inspired by the masters.

‘Lines of thought: Drawing from Michelangelo to now’ is generously supported by the Bridget Riley Art Foundation. The refit of Poole Museum’s exhibition galleries has been supported by Arts Council England, South West Museums Development, Heritage Lottery Fund and visitors to the museum.
