Twenty seven local charities and organisations took part in the Grand Charities Fair organised by Wimborne in Bloom at the Allendale Centre, Wimborne Minster on Saturday 14 November. Between them they raised over £4,000 for the various causes they represented. Money was raised for the Royal British Legion, Unicef, Friends of Wimborne Hospital and the Children’s Society. The Mayor also had a table raising money for his charities. Before the fair was opened by the Mayor, Cllr Shane Bartlett, there was a period of silence to remember all those lost in the atrocities in France the evening before. John Hare-Brown, Secretary of Wimborne in Bloom who had died recently and who worked tirelessly for Wimborne in Bloom was also remembered.
Wimborne in Bloom had a successful table with four hampers as prizes and also benefitted from the entrance money. The overall amount raised for Wimborne in Bloom was approximately £1,800, thanks to Barclays Bank and their matched fundraising scheme under their work in the community programme.
The next Wimborne in Bloom fundraising event is the pre-Christmas coffee morning being held on Saturday 21 November at the home of Anthony and Christine Oliver, 34 Park Lane, Wimborne Minster from 10am until 12noon.
