Children invited to get creative
Youngsters are being invited to get their creative juices flowing and design a flag for this year’s Poole Maritime Festival.
The children’s flag competition is an ideal opportunity for young ones to have fun designing a flag that will be used to decorate Poole during the Poole Maritime Festival in May.
The competition is open to all children between the ages of 5 and 11 years of age and all flags must have a maritime-themed design to support Poole Maritime Festival.
Fifteen winning designs will be made into full-sized flags and flown throughout Poole Town Centre before and during the prestigious European Maritime Day two-day conference. They will be seen by residents, visitors to the area and approximately 1,000 delegates from across Europe.
Once the flags are taken down they will be given to the winning designers, together with a certificate, to keep as a memento of the part they played in one of the largest events to take place in Poole in recent years.
One of the judges, Mayor of Poole, Cllr Xena Dion, said, “We are really proud that Poole is hosting European Maritime Day this year and I am delighted that this competition enables our young children to be a part of it. Children’s imaginations can be quite breathtaking and I am really looking forward to seeing the creative designs that they come up with.”
The children’s flag competition has been kindly sponsored by Flagmakers, who have been making flags for over 175 years. Paul Noble, Commercial Director, said, “Flagmakers are delighted to be involved in the Poole Maritime Festival. The children’s flags will bring colour and fun to the town, and we hope all the kids involved in the competition enjoyed creating their wonderful designs.”
