Christchurch and Highcliffe’s Home Library Service volunteers honoured
A woman, who has volunteered with the Royal Voluntary Service in Christchurch for 27 years, was amongst those recognised at a recent event.
Barbara Berridge, who started as a Meals on Wheels volunteer before joining the Home Library Service, had a first clasp added to her 15-year medal.
Barbara said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my volunteering over the years. I have met so many interesting people and working with the library has been such a pleasure.”
Held in Christchurch Library, the event was the first time since 2019 that Christchurch and Highcliffe’s Home Library Service volunteers had been able to meet.
Maria Jacobson, RVS service manager for Dorset and BCP Home Library Service, presented the clasp together with a bouquet of flowers and a citation from HM the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Maria said: “Barbara has been a mainstay of our service. The Home Library Service means so much to the people who receive it, as well as our volunteers. Anyone who struggles to get to the library to get their books can apply to join for free: books and talking books are delivered by RVS volunteers every three or four weeks. Why not give us a call and find out more?”
To get in touch please phone the RVS Office on 01305 236666, e-mail Maria on maria.jacobson@royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk or get in touch with your local library.
