Community consultation required on development of the Priest’s House Museum’s Revival project
The Museum of East Dorset is inviting the public to share their views on the Priest’s House Museum and how it can be developed for the future.
Museum personnel are keen to know your opinions about the building, and the services and facilities that it currently offers.
Two Open Days have been arranged:
· Community Open Day on Saturday 1 April open to the public, 10am – 4pm
· Family Open Day on Saturday 8 April aimed at parents, grandparents and children, 2pm– 4pm.
These will take place at the Priest’s House Museum, High Street, Wimborne, BH21 1HR. Entrance to the museum and garden will be free.
In addition, Museum volunteers will also be conducting quick surveys around the town and rural locations. The questionnaire can also be found on the website www.priest-house.co.uk.
The Priest’s House Museum and Garden in Wimborne, Dorset was awarded £145,200 by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to enable it to develop its ‘Revival’ project proposal, which will ensure that the museum is fit for the challenges of the 21st century. The Museum now has 12 months in which to finalise detailed plans and submit a Round 2 application.
This exciting project will include refurbishment and enlarging of exhibition and display space; enhancing the story of the Grade II listed historic townhouse itself; telling the story of the people who have lived in East Dorset through changing exhibitions; further developing the community engagement programme; and making the entire building more accessible to all. In addition, and importantly, Wimborne’s Tourist Information Centre will be amalgamated within the Museum, ensuring this vital community service remains in the heart of East Dorset.
The Round 2 application will be submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund for £982,200 in November 2017. If the museum secures all the funding, it is planned to open the refurbished museum in 2019.
