Couple head Ferndown Town Council as mayor elected unanimously with husband chosen as deputy
Ferndown’s new mayor was unanimously elected at the town council’s annual meeting on 16 May and her husband was also chosen on the night to become her deputy.
The new mayor of Ferndown, Councillor Mrs Cathy Lugg was elected unanimously on 16 May and takes over for 2017/18 from Councillor Mike Parkes. Cathy’s husband Steve Lugg was elected on the same evening as her deputy.
After giving a vote of thanks to Mike Parkes, Cllr Cathy Lugg said, “It is a great honour to serve the community of Ferndown for the next year and I will endeavour to represent the town of Ferndown and its people to the best of my abilities.
“I am very much looking forward to meeting as many community groups as I can.
“It is an exciting time for the town with a number of key projects being implemented such as the redevelopment of King George V Recreation Ground and to take forward the proposals to re-open the town’s youth centre.
“My key priorities will be to make Ferndown a socially inclusive and caring community, and environmentally a cleaner place to live.”
Cathy Lugg has been a town councillor for 10 years and is also an East Dorset district councillor. A keen reader, she has worked for Ferndown Library for the past 20 years, where she leads the rhyme-time sessions for under threes. Cathy loves children, dogs, walking, baking and knitting
Her charity for her mayoral year will be the Ferndown Wheel Park based at King George V Recreation Ground and Cathy will be hosting a number of civic and charitable events to raise money for the project.
