Crane Valley Captains Day raises more than £1,000 for JTYAF
The club has really got behind the charity, which raises funds to progress the careers of young people in memory of John Thornton.
The three captains at Crane Valley Golf Club have supported Ferndown-based The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) as their charity of the year.
Their recent Captains Charity Fun Day, which took place just before the second lockdown, was a huge success raising £1,045 for the JTYAF.
The wind and rain didn’t manage to dampen the spirits of the 26 teams as laughter and cheering was heard all around the course.
Pete Thornton joined the three captains for his first round of golf for many years and thoroughly enjoyed his day.
Linda Thornton said, “The fantastic total of £1,045 would not have been possible without the support of all those who took part and special thanks must go to the volunteers whose time and effort made this event possible.”
Pete and Linda Thornton met up with James, one of the Crane Valley juniors, who had received a JTYAF Award in 2019. He was proud to be supporting the charity day as his bursary had enabled him to develop as a golfer and work towards his ambition to play at professional/semi-professional standard. Since his award the 15-year-old has reduced his handicap to an impressive 13.
The three Crane Valley captains have organised two charity events raising more than £2,000.
