Death at Durley Chine as man recovered from the sea
A man was pulled from the water on Sunday by swimmers and sunbathers who had been enjoying the fine weather.
The late summer weather saw plenty of visitors across Bournemouth’s beaches as events unfolded in front of those at Durley Chine. A man was pulled from the sea and despite extensive resuscitation efforts, including the use of a defibrillator and the arrival of ambulance and Coast Guard medical teams, the man, aged in his seventies, sadly passed away.
A Dorset Police spokesperson updated media, saying: “We received a report at 4.13pm on Sunday 4 October of a man requiring medical attention at Bournemouth beach near to the pier. Emergency services attended and, very sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family is aware. The death is not being treated as suspicious.”
The incident took place a week after RNLI lifeguard coverage ended at Bournemouth’s beaches. The cause of death is yet to be confirmed. RNLI safety advice is in place for those swimming over the out-of-season months, including the risks of cold-water shock.
