Dorset Cancer Care Foundation (DCCF) has been inundated with stunning photographs for its first charity calendar.
The DCCF is producing a 2017 calendar to fund its work in helping local cancer sufferers.
In January it invited people to send in their favourite shots of Dorset.
Since then it has received over 200 submissions, including a beautiful sunset scene taken at Mudeford Quay by Ann Petrie.
Mrs Petrie from Highcliffe, said: “I was thrilled to learn my photograph is being considered for the DCCF calendar.
“I love taking pictures and the chance that one might be used to raise money to help local people with cancer would be extremely satisfying.
“It is an awful disease. Some of my friends have gone through it or still are, and I want to do anything that could help, even in a small way.”
DCCF was founded in 2012 by Eve Went, Leslie-May Harrison and Pam Jeffries from Poole to help cancer patients cope with financial pressures.
Last year alone the charity made grants totalling £142,000, paying for items such as a new pushchair for a child undergoing chemotherapy, a holiday in Scotland for a terminally ill man and his wife and patients’ transport costs to and from hospital.
DCCF has also funded an overnight treatment room at Lewis Manning Hospice in Poole, a chill out room for teen cancer patients at Poole Hospital and is helping Wessex Cancer Trust to set up patient support centres in Dorchester and Bournemouth.
Grandmother-of-five Ann Petrie, helps run the U3A Christchurch Photography Group and has had her pictures featured on Meridian News and on the television programme Nature, presented by Alan Titchmarsh.
She said: “My favourite subjects are anything in nature, from birds and animals, to sunsets, seascapes and flowers. The photo I have submitted to the calendar competition was taken in Mudeford one September evening.”
Diane Bird of DCCF said: “Ann’s sunset is absolutely stunning and we are so thankful to her for sending it in.”
Thirteen winning images will be chosen for the calendar – one for each month in 2017 and one for the calendar’s front cover – and the photographer’s name will feature beside each image.
Pictures can be taken in any season, but must have been taken in Dorset.
People are asked to email their photographs to: info@dccf.co.uk no later than Friday 27 May 2016. The images should be high resolution, at least 5MB in size and should be accompanied by the photographer’s name and phone number.
