Fires break out across Dorset over the Bank Holiday weekend
Firefighters from across the region and beyond were called to fires breaking out on heathland across the county.
This Bank Holiday weekend saw a number of hugely damaging fires breaking out across Dorset.
At 2.46pm on Sunday, firefighters were called to reports of a grass fire off Alder Road in Poole. A total of 15 fire engines and 75 firefighters attended. Crews came from Poole, Hamworthy, Westbourne, Springbourne, Redhill Park, Wimborne, Weymouth, Sturminster Newton, Ferndown, Shaftesbury and Mere. Firefighters from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service also attended, as well as the Unimog from Wareham and land rovers from Christchurch and Bere Regis.
The fire involved grass and trees and firefighters worked hard to prevent the spread of the fire and to protect neighbouring properties.
On Bank Holiday Monday, a fire affecting approximately 50x20m of gorse, grass and woodland broke out at Three Legged Cross.
Firefighters from Verwood, Christchurch, Cranborne and Wilton attended the heath fire off Furzelands Road which was reported at 12.16pm.
It was surrounded at 1.30pm, but fire crews, using main lines and hose reels, remained on the scene for some time afterwards dampening down.
Also on Bank Holiday Monday, seven fire engines, two land rovers and one water carrier attended a grass fire at Tarrant Crawford, near Spetisbury.
