It’s going to take a lot of bottle, but thanks to a £500 donation from the local Nisa store, children at Merley First School will be able to create new flower beds and make their playground more environmentally friendly.
Headteacher, Jane Phillips, said: “We are delighted that Nisa has given us these funds to help towards creating our eco-friendly playground.
“With the money we’ll be buying flower beds made from recycled plastic bottles and each class will have responsibility for maintaining them.
“Last summer we were awarded a Gold Level Environment award from the Borough of Poole and our drive to make our playground more green is a big part of that.”
Nisa Local in the Oakley Shopping Centre in Merley made this donation to Merley First School as part of the ‘Making a Difference Locally’ scheme.
Making a Difference Locally (MADL) is a charity launched to help independently-run local Nisa stores to add value to their communities through donations.
Nisa shops gather funding for good causes by selling MADL associated products and once the stores have a pot of money, they can fund initiatives in their community.
Michelle Woodison, manager for Nisa Local, said: “Helping our local children to give them the best possible start is important for us.
“Enabling the children to learn to grow their own flowers and vegetables will be great for them.
“We are really proud to support Merley First School and hope we can continue to support them again in the future.”
