There are not many businesses where your colleagues would openly admit that they are glad to see you leave. At Bournemouth airport based Airways Aviation there have been celebrations as Mike Allison leaves his role as flying instructor to join Flybe at Southampton Airport to fly Dash 8 airliners.
Mike, 32 from Ferndown, who initially learnt to fly through a scholarship whilst serving with a Royal Navy, has logged over 300 hours teaching people to fly. Ollie Pennington, Managing Director at Airways Aviation says that he is delighted that Mike can now achieve his ambition to fly with an airline.
“Training pilots for a career is what our business is about so we are naturally pleased that Mike can move on in his own career. In time some of Mike’s own student pilots could follow his career path.”
Mike will initially train with Flybe in Exeter before flying commuter routes from Southampton Airport.
