Fordingbridge festival organisers announce decision to disband
A group that organises several events in the Fordingbridge area has decided to break up due to a lack of volunteers.
A volunteer group that organises multiple events in the Fordingbridge area, including the annual Fordingbridge Festival and the town’s Christmas lights switch on, has disbanded following a recent festive event.
The Christmas in Fordingbridge Lights Switch On was held on Friday 29 November, and organised by the Fordingbridge Events Group (FEG). Following the success of the annual event, FEG announced on Monday 2 December that it had decided to break up, citing a lack of volunteer members.
In an online statement, a spokesperson for the group said: “It is with regret that, following last Friday’s extremely successful annual ‘Christmas in Fordingbridge Lights Switch On,’ the Fordingbridge Events Group (FEG) will be disbanding. All future community events in Fordingbridge will now become the responsibility of and be managed by the Fordingbridge Town Council moving forward.
“It has been a hard decision for the few remaining members of FEG to stop but the reduction in ‘volunteers’ has made the arranging and organising of local events no longer possible by such a small number of people.
“Since it was formed in 2017, FEG has provided a large number of amazing events such as the Summer Festivals, Christmas Events, Jubilee and Coronation events and local drama productions.
“FEG would like to thank all of those within the local community who have attended, supported and enjoyed these events over the past seven years.”
The statement received a positive response, with many online commenters expressing their gratitude for the work of the FEG. Local resident Paul Williams said: “You guys have done a fantastic job, thank you for all the time, energy and passion given.”
Fordingbridge Town Council member, Cllr David Millar, said: “The Events Group have been an incredible group for Fordingbridge. Thanks for all the work you’ve put in over many years. A significant hole to fill.”
