Good things come in small packages as Dorset farmers receive LAG grants
Two Dorset farmers benefit from Local Action Group LEADER grants that are available to rural business and community projects.
A farmer based near Sherborne has received a grant of £8,634 from Northern Dorset LAG (Local Action Group). Mr Tizzard Ltd will use the grant to install equipment to support precision farming on the farm. By using such equipment farmers can better use land, water and fertilizers, reducing waste and protecting natural resources for future use.
Another grant, awarded by Southern Dorset LAG for £5,552, has been received by a small organic farm in the Purbecks for a range of innovative equipment that will improve the management and care of livestock; ultimately helping the farm increase the sizes of their beef herd and sheep flock.
Dorset’s Local Action groups distribute LEADER grants to rural business and community projects. Although the largest grants can be in excess of £100,000 the most recent grant awards prove that it is not always the greatest sums that can make the most difference.
The LAGs minimum size of grant is £5,000 and the largest £140,000. If you have a project idea for any small and micro business or community group based in rural Dorset you can talk it through with one of the Dorset LEADER team or attend a one-to-one surgery at a venue near you.
