Historical society to hear stories from WWII
If you’re interested in history, then you may want to head to Fordingbridge Historical Society’s meeting on Monday 14 March.
Fordingbridge Historical Society will welcome Sonia Aarons-Green to its meeting on 14 March. Sonia will be talking about her father-in-law, David Green’s, experiences during WWII.
The young soldier journeyed from the sleepy Wiltshire village of Woodfalls to the steamy jungles and mountains of Burma. Sonia will also talk about 1930’s life in Woodfalls and share memories of the trip that she and her husband Anthony made to many of the areas through which David had travelled.
Alastair Dalrymple, society acting chairman, said: “David Green’s story is certainly a poignant one but Sonia’s talk promises to breathe life into one member of WWII’s ‘Forgotten Army’. And the fact that she has lived and worked in Godshill for many years is an added local bonus.”
The subject of the April meeting will be ‘The man who rebuilt Wessex’, the story of Benjamin Ferrey, a successful architect who was responsible for the original street plans of Bournemouth as well as building and restoring more than 200 churches, houses and public buildings in the West Country.
Fordingbridge Historical Society meets on the second Monday of the month at 2.30pm at St Mary’s Church Hall, Fordingbridge. Visitors and guests are welcome.
